Welcome to my professional portfolio!!
My name is Cassie Lindo. I am currently finishing my last semester of a very intensive 3 year advanced diploma program in Child and Youth Care at St Lawrence College, Kingston Campus. This is a little glimpse of how my career as a CYC has already started, as you will learn a bit more about me and why I choose the field of Child and Youth Care. Also you will be able to see and share my experiences thus far and my end goal upon graduating next month. Some of the pages Thanks for taking the time to learn more about why I am so passionate about making a difference in children and youth's lives. |

All About Me
When you overcome situations in your past that made it difficult to make it day to day, it makes you think whether you will make the best of the future or not. Growing up in the system, having to move from foster home to foster home, I never really knew what it was like to have a stable environment. I decided that I wasn't going to let my past define me, I was going to make the right decisions for myself that I could be proud of. I have grown to not dwell on the past as that will never move you forward. I was taken at a young age and put into a foster home where I move from home to home meaning I never really had a stable environment and not have supports in place. There are some people who take their undesired past and want to better not only themselves but others, and those others being children with similar experiences as me.
So becoming a Child and Youth Care Practitioner is something that I felt would allow myself to really be able to make a difference to those children who may not be getting the support like I did. Just to know that I can possibly make a difference in at least one young persons life, that would make this whole experience worth it. I did not know at that time that I was going to enter the field of Child and Youth Care until I started to educated myself and was getting ready to graduate high school. At this time, I learned that this program was very intensive, was going to teach me a whole lot about myself and was probably going to push me harder than I ever had been pushed before, but in the end I knew that it was something that when completed would make me extremely proud and would be worth it.
I went to Algonquin College my first year and completed year one of the Child and Youth Care Program. I had no idea what I had signed up for, I mean I knew I was about to go through a three year program to work with children but I did not realize what actually came with it. I finished the year, moved home and decided that maybe I was not ready for post secondary school. I was really second guessing myself and my choice in profession. I took time off, reflecting on what I wanted to do and when September came around, I felt that the Child and Youth Care Program was for me, I really could not think of a better field and I was going to do it. I think I was really ready to face my past, prove to everyone doubting me and graduate for no one but myself.
I am now completing my final semester, and choosing to go back to St. Lawrence is something that I am very proud of. Finishing this year will mean that I have not only pushed myself farther then I thought I'd go, it also means that I have not given up on myself. I have proved that when you really set your mind to something especially when it's something that you believe in and are passionate about, you can really go far.
